Two years ago today I was at Machu Picchu climbing many many steps with my mum and I’m currently writing this throwback post reminiscing on my memories there.
It was my second visit to Machu Picchu. My first being back in 2017 during my first 10 week trip to South America with a friend. I hadn’t originally planned to return. However, when I knew I was meeting my mum for a week in Peru going to Machu Picchu was a must – I really wanted her to experience it. I had it all booked – hotel, train tickets and Machu Picchu itself.
It was lovely to see family and picking mum up from the airport was fun and slightly odd – it’s normally me being collected!
When we went to collect our train tickets in Cusco, we found out there was a train strike at the last minute which would interfere with our trip to Machu Picchu. Luckily, we were able to switch our days around and stay an extra night in Aguas Calientes. We still made it to Machu Picchu and it was quieter than my first visit – I reckon due to the train strike!
Whilst at Machu Picchu, we climbed Montana Machu Picchu too. With the number of steps we climbed, it was a leg day for sure! At the top, we waited for the clouds to clear and show Machu Picchu which they finally did. When the clouds do come in, Machu Picchu is completely hidden from view in the mist. It’s quite mysterious!
I really enjoyed taking my mum to Machu Picchu and it was just as good visiting a second time! Click here to read more about my second visit to Cusco and Machu Picchu…Also for 10 things to do in Cusco follow this link…
